KUALA SELANGOR, Oct 18 – The Kuala Selangor Wanita Umno divisional meeting today turned ugly following a chair-throwing incident and several branch delegates walking out of the meeting.
Before the incidents, the delegates had put up a protest when Kuala Selangor Wanita Umno permanent chairman Zaini Khalid refused to give them the opportunity to propose 10 branch delegates to attend the divisional meeting tomorrow.
The media were also prevented from entering the meeting hall to observe the election process.
The division had nominated Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil to contest the post of Wanita Umno head and Datuk Kamilia Ibrahim as its vice-head in the party elections in March.
For the post of the division's Wanita Umno head, incumbent Datin Paduka Mesrah Selamat retained her post when she beat Datuk Dr Zahrah Abdul Kadir, who is the Pekan Kuala Selangor Wanita Umno branch head.
Out of the 253 votes cast, Mesrah obtained 146 votes against Zahrah's 105 while there were two spoilt votes.
The meeting was opened by Kuala Selangor Umno division head Datuk Amiruddin Setro. – Bernama
